About Academix Learning

Alternative Provision

Academix Learning is an alternative provision offering a relaxed, flexible approach to education, designed to meet pupils where they are. We provide short, focused bursts of learning across core subjects alongside a strong emphasis on life skills, wellbeing and personal development. Our enrichment offer includes activities such as fishing, baking, cooking, golf, library and farm visits, team-building experiences and mindfulness sessions, helping pupils to build confidence, resilience and real-world skills. Where appropriate, our aim is to support pupils to successfully re-integrate back into mainstream education, working closely with schools and families to ensure a planned and supported transition. We also offer short-term placements for pupils awaiting a specialist provision, as well as less structured timetables focused on enrichment and targeted interventions for those not yet ready to engage with formal education, providing a safe, nurturing environment where every young person can progress at their own pace.

Primary

Our provision is carefully designed to support younger pupils in a nurturing, calm and structured environment. We work closely alongside each child’s school to determine their current working age, identify strengths, and understand any additional intervention needs before and during placement. This ensures learning and support are appropriately matched and meaningful. Our staff are trained in Team Teach, enabling us to manage behaviour safely and consistently, while promoting emotional regulation and positive relationships. We also deliver a range of targeted interventions, including ELSA, THRIVE, Lego Therapy and trauma-informed approaches, to support emotional wellbeing, social skills and readiness to learn. Through a personalised and collaborative approach, we help primary pupils build confidence, feel secure, and make positive progress at their own pace.

Secondary

We  offer a flexible and supportive approach tailored to the individual needs of each young person. We work closely with schools to assess a pupil’s current working level, identify any intervention needs and agree clear outcomes for their placement. Alongside emotional and wellbeing interventions such as ELSA, THRIVE, Lego Therapy and trauma-informed approaches, our staff are trained in Team Teach to support behaviour positively and safely. We also collaborate with schools to deliver accredited learning pathways, including ASDAN courses, GCSE preparation and Functional Skills, ensuring pupils continue to make academic progress alongside personal development. In addition, we support pupils in preparing for post-16 pathways by helping them explore options, complete college applications, prepare for interviews and attend college visits prior to transition. Through personalised timetables, targeted support and strong partnership working, we help secondary pupils re-engage with learning, build confidence and move forward positively into their next stage of education or training.

Holistic learning for at risk pupils

Our holistic learning approach supports children and young people with a wide range of needs, including autism, ADHD, anxiety, behavioural needs and school refusal. We recognise that every pupil is different, so we focus on nurturing the whole child — emotionally, socially and academically — to help them feel safe, regulated and ready to engage. Our setting offers a variety of purposeful spaces to meet individual needs, including a sensory room, cosy corner, intervention rooms, safe spaces, a classroom environment and an outdoor area. Based in the heart of Bolton on Dearne, we are ideally located within walking distance of the local park, football cage and field, fishing spots and local shops. These community-based opportunities allow us to embed real-life learning such as physical activity, emotional wellbeing, independence and money skills, helping pupils build confidence, resilience and practical skills in a meaningful and supportive way.
